    Springs

Posted by Keith Baines on 10th Aug 2012

I liked the design and the finish was good. I am a little concerned about the springs though as they are the same type as those on the handles I am now having to replace. When new, the house internal doors were fitted with good quality brass handles on a long back plate. After 10 years the springs are now breaking - presumably due to metal fatigue. So far it has proved impossible to replace the springs and so, otherwise perfectly good brass handles, are now useless. The springs on the Carlisle Brass, Madrid range are of the same type but feel weaker when the handle is turned. I am wondering how long they will last. When the springs break will I have to throw those handles away as well? It seems to be quite wasteful to have to dispose of brass door handles because a small spring wears out - which probably costs very little.
