Magnetic latches and locks are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, offering near-silent operation. The latchbolt stays retracted into the door until the door is closed, at which point the magnetised keep pulls the latchbolt out and latches the door. The keep also features a padded base to eliminate metal-on-metal 'clicking'.
