Designed to fit inward and outward-facing openings, our range of door security bolts will allow you to add as much extra safety to your home as you see fit. At Handles4Home, we are committed to sourcing robust, protective products that match your overall decor, which is why Carlile Brass, Eurospec Hardware and From The Anvil are some of the quality brands you can choose from.
As door bolts can be applied to many different types of doors, you must have access to the most suitable products. Our door handle bolts vary significantly in size, allowing you to identify the perfect bolt for a particular function easily. While 100mm bolts will be great for securing some of your windows and doors, a 600mm door bolt could provide extra security for very large entrance doors.
How to install a barrel bolt on a door
A barrel bolt is a reliable and easy piece of equipment to fit on the doors throughout your home. If you are unsure of what bolt is best for you, our products, such as the Carlile Brass Straight Barrel Bolts or the Fulton & Bray Luxury Door Barrel Bolts, should point you towards what you need!
-
Before you begin, you will need to have the barrel bolt you are going to fit, screws, a pencil, measuring tape, hammer, chisel, drill and the appropriate-sized drill bits.
-
Determine where to position the barrel bolt on the door, ensuring it is reachable for all users.
-
Highlight where you will place your barrel bolt using a measuring tape and pencil.
-
Once happy with the positioning of your door bolt, hold up the main body of it and mark each of the screw holes on your door. Ensure these are completely straight to avoid any later mishaps.
-
Attach a drill bit to your drill, which is narrower than the screws you are going to use and make shallow holes, carefully placing them over the marks you made earlier.
-
Now, using a different drill bit that is suitable for drilling in screws, hold the body of your barrel bolt up to your desired height and drill the first screw using your markings as a reference. Repeat this step until all screws are positioned securely and the bolt sits on your door.
-
Position the keep of your barrel bolt against your door frame and mark where it will be secured using a pencil. It should align perfectly with the body of your barrel.
-
Using a chisel and hammer, carefully make a small section where the keep will sit in your door frame, always carefully sticking to the shape of your outline. Allowing your keep to sit flush with the door frame will maximise ease of use and make for a tidy finish.
-
Remove the loose wood of your doorframe and place the keep into the exposed area. Make any necessary adjustments if it looks and feels loose.
-
With the keep sat in the doorframe, make markings with your pencil of the required screw holes, which will be used to hold it in place.
-
Drill the holes, ensuring accuracy with the markings you have made.
-
Fit the screws to hold the keep in place.
Test your barrel bolt moves easily, fitting into the keep without any obstruction. Make any necessary adjustments.
